Genealogy Research Log
Here is the historical account of my genealogy research and progress.
Today I decided to start compiling the genealogical information for my immediate family and those of my aunts/uncles/cousins and grandparents. So far it's simple relationships since I don't have many birth/marriage dates.
March 05, 2004
Found an easy to use free application called GedLink to track all my genealogical information. It does not have any advance functions or reporting capabilities, but you can add people, create marriages and add children and export to Gedcom. I'll research a more advanced package later.
I then found a great open source PHP application called phpGedView and installed it on the www.ethierfamily.net site. I can now take the exported Gedcom file from GedLink and upload it to the website.

I spoke with my mom to see if her or my dad had any information on our families or ancestors. My parents did not have anything they compiled themselves, but they did have hard copies of some Kinsella genealogy and the Coutu genealogy (my dad's mom's side). My dad also mentioned that his dad has a book on the Ethier family from Verner.
My mom's cousin Robert Glynn, from Newfoundland, compiled the Kinsella information and my great-aunt Thérčse, from Ottawa, compiled the Coutu information.
My mom had Robert Glynn's home number so I called and introduced myself. Turns out he has quite a bit of info, of which my mom does have a hard copy. Robert mentioned his info stops with my mom's generation and their spouses. I told him I'd collect the missing info and send him the data. He will be sending me what information he has. Also turns out he has a bunch of old pictures to send me. I can't wait!

I received the images from Robert Glynn and added them to the Gallery. They are very interesting.I also spoke with my mother-in-law Liz to see if she had anything for Lisa's side of the family and as luck would have it, she has a hard copy of some information compiled by someone else that covers most of her family history.

Received the Kargus genealogy from Liz and it dates back to the late 18th century. It was in hard copy format, so I added all the info into my database. There were not many sources for the information, so I'll do some digging to ensure things are accurate, but things are starting to fill out.

Visited with my great-aunt Thérčse and she gave me a copy of the Coutu genealogy. Once again, I added all the info to my database since her info was in hard copy format as well. For now, I don't have any sources confirming the accuracy of the information, but according to Thérčse, she did quite a bit of research at the archives and has some reference material that I can get at a later date.

This weekend we had a surprise 60th birthday party for my uncle Doug Kinsella. My mom was able to dig out the hard copy information compiled by Robert Glynn. I also took the opportunity, with the entire Kinsella clan together, to ask my Nanny some questions. My aunt Marilyn and Florence, along with Ken (my aunt Flo's fiance) spoke with Nanny while I wrote down details. Some very interesting information came out from this conversation.

Finally got around to adding all the information gathered March 27 about the Kinsella side of the family. I'll be tackling the Kinsella anscesters from the Robert Glynn hard copy documentation next.
